So in running kids club we are doing memory verses.. something I have not really done much of, mainly cause I am lazy, but now I am doing them and I think that leaders need to lead by example 🙂 a good motivation!!!!
This is our pictionary version of teaching the memory verse……
Does not make that much sense to look at it but it got it in the kids heads as well a sine so a success, but yesterday we did a scavenger hunt version, worked well as well, was encouraged that a couple of the kids did remember it from the week before 🙂
Now to keep up the remembering, because as timothy says;
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:14-17
What a Finish, is going to an interesting battle to watch, but as i am a Green Edge fan i’m all for Gossy
So i like bikes, both Road and MTB,
i am currently doing up a project, when i first got into riding bikes as a Kid i always wanted a Cannondale Super-V, and a while ago i found one on Ebay cheap and i could not resist it…..
But i like doing up bikes and now it is half stripped of it’s paint, with the aim of painting it up as a VOLVO CANNONDALE team bike from the 90’s, this is one someone else has done i fund ont he internet, but that is the color theme i am aiming for….
And here is a photo of where my current project stands…….. a fair way to go
But it is fun…… and i hope it does not end up like my last Cannondale….. a sad sad story, one of my favorite bikes…..
Thinking about how to attack Romans, i am preaching Romans 1 – 8 in 3 three week blocks over the next 5 months, in a small country church in regional NSW. I chose to do Romans because I want to do a bible study on it next term so I thought I Mays well preach on it as well.
Now in breaking it up I think that the first talk is an easy one to work out, it is the intro , a both to the book and to the Gospel as well. The second talk is the bad news, or the reality of how we stand before God with out Jesus. The third talk was a bit more difficult to work out, as I thought the logical finish was before 3:21, but I did not want to finish the first block with out going into the good news that now comes after all the bad news, the hope that comes after the hopelessness which precedes.
So here is a brief first outline of the talks.
Talk 1. Romans 1:1-17
Thinking about the first talk i am thinking that it is Romans 1:1-17. It is a great introduction both to Paul as well as to the Gospel itself. We start of by looking at the Gospel, which was promised through the prophets, is about Jesus, who was a descendant of David, was appointed the son of God, by his resurrection from the dead, and through whom we received GRACE that comes from FAITH in the name of Jesus.
A good summary of the first part of the book i think, that is our salvation is through Grace and Faith alone, not by anything we do as we will see that we can’t do it ourselves. we then see what this means for Paul, great thanks and then a desire for him to see more people understand that the Gospel is “the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes” everyone. because Jew or Gentile don’t mean anything when it comes to righteousness, as righteousness comes through faith alone.
Talk 2. Romans 1:18 – 2:16
This Talk is the bad news talk, it is the talk that puts us in our place, it is the part of Romans that shows us for who we really are, it is Paul answering our ideas that we just might be ok before God by our selves, it is Paul speaking to those who think that they really are a OK person, it reads in Romans 1:25 that “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.”
Meaning that we are I no position to judge anyone else as we are all in the same boat. It is a talk that reminds us of our utter dependence on God for our salvation as if left up to us we would be worshiping who knows what!
Talk 3. Romans 2: 17 – 3:24
We see here Paul having a go at the Jews, he labels them hypocrites! he says that they are bring God’s name into disrepute, they are living how they like relying on their circumcision, or their “Jewishness” for salvation, but Paul points out that is really worthless as proper circumcision is a heart thing not a external thing. so then the obvious question is what is the point of being a Jew, lots Paul says they are privileged, God promised them faithfulness, and even though some are unfaithful God is still faithful.
Paul then finishes of by saying that they are all the same, Jew and Gentile both Stuffed. But then comes the “But now” after being told there is no hope in the law only condemnation we are now told that there s hope through Jesus
twice in the last few days i have been reminded that God wants to have a relationship with us, not that we have to go chasing him but that he comes chasing us almost. as he has given us a way to be in a relationship with him, he has made himslef known through the Bible.
How good is that he wants us to know him 🙂
thanks God that we have your word 🙂 now let us read it more
Hi all, (well no one at this point in time apart from me)
we just had a weekend away, Got the opportunity to preach in Molong Baptist church on sunday morning, i love visiting other churches, seeing how they are doing things. the church service was one of their Youth services, a wonderful idea in which the whole church is done by the youth, i was interviewed by a 12 year old, the kids talk was done by a teenager and the service was also lead by a teenager. very good idea and i think i can being it home and get our teens more involved in church, and give them some ownership.
Preached on Col 1 that Jesus is our sole and sufficient saviour, with a gospel overview according to Paul. Great passage and very encouraging well to me anyway and hopefully to others.
We then stayed on a friends farm to help out for a few days, what a place the photo was one morning as we were waking up. they Got 2 inches of rain which is great as it is sowing time and the soil will be prefect for it. God is good after a drought that may not be over yet, but looking good so far this year.
Thanks God for:
- Unborn Babies, that they grow well and into God
- Friends, for their hospitality
- The Gospel, that we can be reminded of its greatness
- Rain in a country reeling from Drought
- our friends as they start a new job
- that i can take more time for God
this is my first experience of blogging, and well i was looking for a way to think through my relationship with Jesus, i thought about journals but i thought that the best way to do it would be with a blog, they seem to be all the rage these days.
anyway i am 30 with a wife and a son who is turning 1 in a few weeks, very exciting 🙂
today i had the privilege of teaching scripture, a year 10 class and a year 6 class. The year ten class went very well, we talked about the history of the christian faith, how it divided from the Catholic’s in the 1500’s and also what separates Protestant Evangelical Christianity from the other religions out there, that is that we are not about what we have to do but we are about what has already been done for us by Jesus. very good class with some great discussions, i like year ten much better than year 8!
was a great reminder of the real need for people to be speaking of Jesus in our schools, we are so lucky we still can, thanks God 🙂
the below image is of us all on our holiday to Tasmania in January at Wine Glass Bay, very cool
anyway thats my thoughts for now, i hope i get the hang of this blogging stuff.
