I am currently at ISCF leadership conference this week, It is a week for the students who are involved in leading the ISCF (lunchtime Christian Groups in their high school) Groups.
The Topic for the week is Discipleship, and today we heard a talk on the idea of Servant hood, then we had a small group after to discuss. It was a great and very challenging talk, thinking about what it means to be a servant, and looking at Jesus as a servant to model our lives on.
the passage was from Mark 10, a stand out was;
Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Jesus was so servant minded that he gave his live for those he was serving. in our small group we talked about how servanthood such a counter cultural idea, we are being told from all sides that we are the most important in the world and that everything that we do has to be centred on us. But we looked at the fact that this is the opposite way round to what it should be, servant hood I think is a “Radical” idea, and we talked about radical servanthood which is all about it is about putting us second and other people first, that is what Jesus did, he gave up his life for us to have it.
Radical servanthood i think is as some of the students suggested offering to clean the graffiti off the desks at school, or spending lunch sitting with people who are looking sad and sitting by themselves, radical servanthood is going out of your way to help at home, it is giving up on things that you may give to others.
Radical servant hood is putting other people before you no mater what the cost, and Jesus is a prime example to look to.
A Challenge !!!!
